There is an ejector in the back of the barrel that pops it out a little so you can either thumb nail it out or it will pop out and fall out of the bottom. The bolt face holds the primer in.

The barrel and magazine plug are the only things that have to be removed for the gun to be converted into a muzzleoader. The breech plug is not removable. It is a blued steel barrel.

The Mossberg Model 500 Muzzleloader Conversion Kit converts a Mossberg 500 shotgun into a .50 cal single shot muzzleloader. Once converted, the gun will be like any other inline muzzleloader that requires powder, wad and bullet to be loaded form the muzzle, and a 209 shotgun primer placed on the breech plug before it can be fired.

Teh balckpowder only causes fouling in the actual barrel. The rest of the gun does not come in contact
with any combustion byproduct.

The primer may be pried out of the breach with a 209 primer removal tool or small flathead
screwdriver.

The Mossberg Model 500 Muzzleloader Conversion Kit (230358) does require the use of 209 primers. This barrel does not come drilled and tapped for scope mounts, the barrel will have open sights. We do sell shotgun scope mounts separately that would allow you to mount a scope on your gun.

The difficulty of putting in primers is in proportion to your finger size and your manual dexterity.

I would try slipping a push-pin into the hole of a deprimed spent shot-shell casing placed in the barrel of the gun. If you have trouble with that, you're likely to have trouble installing a 209 primer on this conversion kit as well.
