CABELA'S ProVault Safes by Liberty

Store your firearms and valuables with confidence and peace of mind in a ProVault Safe by Liberty. Heavy-duty, two-piece door and body construction is six times stronger than competing designs. There are no seams exposed to potential prying attacks. Extra-hard plate protects the lock mechanism from drilling and punching. Ten 4" military-style locking bars provide stronger security in the door’s four corners. Break-resistant lock-down hinges are stronger than traditional welded hinges. A dual-action stabilizer in the locking system ensures the locking bars engage evenly and consistently. The Suretight handle is outfitted with a slip clutch so no matter how much a would-be thief tries to torque the handle with a pipe, it will protect the locking mechanism by slipping. Fire protection rating is 30 minutes at 1,200°F. The 1" composite fire door is outfitted with a Palusol® door seal that expands up to seven times when exposed to high heat in order to protect safe contents. The door opens 180° for convenient access to safe contents, and extra shelving allows for storage of both firearms and accessories or valuables. New S&G locks. Lifetime warranty on safe (fire or attempted break-in) and locking mechanism. Lock and paint has a 5-year warranty. Available: 12-Gun , Dimensions: 59"H x 18"W x 16"D. Weight: 213 lbs. 18-Gun , Dimensions: 59"H x 24"W x 20"D. Weight: 282 lbs. 24-Gun , Dimensions: 59"H x 28"W x 20"D. Weight: 302 lbs.

The Liberty ProVault Safes, item # IK-231125, only comes with pre-drilled floor anchor holes. You would have to drill holes into the back wall of the safe to be able to mount the safe to a wall.

It only had floor anchor holes... NOT back wall mounting. You could drill some but I would assume that would probably void warranty.

The exterior is a "battleship" dark grey speckled finish. almost a faux granite from a distance. It is a matte finish, you can feel the speckles. Nothing like the high polished models, it is a "discount finish" for sure but well done... I think it looks great after a wipe-down of Pledge.

The 12 gun cabinet uses a dial. I wouldn't be surprised though if this same safe is somehow delivered by Liberty to a different retailer using a different locking mechanism....or if Liberty just oversees it's production from a different manufacturer.

It's confusing because Liberty has no information about the Provault line in its website.

Question

How do I know if this is the 2013 version ProVault?

I was considering getting this safe until I read that it does not have a UL listed lock and that the warranty was only for 5 years. I contacted Liberty customer service to find out if this was true. A Liberty safe representative just responded that: "The new 2013 ProVault will have a single hardplate, a UL listed non key lock with 5 year warranty and our lifetime warranty on the mechanism/fire/burglary."

If you can't use the floor anchor holes, it's far better to go ahead and drill the back for wall stud securing than to worry about miniscule fire rating reduction. If you can use the floor anchor holes, there's no need to anchor the back to wall studs.
