Yes, definitely. You can use braid with most reels. If you're going to use braid, though, it's a good idea to put on a layer of mono first, then tie the mono to the braid and load on the braid. This prevents the braid from slipping. Or you can just tie it on to the spool really tight and use multiple knots so the braid doesn't slip, but this doesn't always work.

Much will depend on your type fo fishing and the lb. test your using. My rule of thumb is if you're using less than 50 lb. braid and you are going to be fishing for fish that will be pulling a lot of drag you need to go to the heavier braid ( min 64 lb test) and watch your drag setting.

First question you need to answer is the WEIGHT of lure/sinker you will be throwing into the surf. Then look at the rod specs to make sure you are not going over the rods lure weight limits (which will break the tip off your rod). These reels will work well for you if you match the reel to a surf rod that will handle the weight/lure you are going to throw. And don't forget the line limits as well.

In forgiving conditions, you could land a 20 inch bluefish easily with any of these. If you reeling against a strong current, need long range casts, or need to muscle fish out of the water quickly and often, consider one in the middle of the lineup.

The rod you intend to pair the reel with is perhaps a more important consideration. A properly balanced rod/reel makes fishing more enjoyable and less tiring.

Either way, watch your fingers near their teeth!

It works like a charm i use this all the time when fishing off the surf. I would recommend it with any medium to heavy surf rod. The reel casts very smooth and that coupled with a stiff backbone of a surf rod makes for really long casts. works best with braid
