Customer questions and answers for CABELA'S Cabela's Photocell Game Feeder Unit

Question

How does this feeder attach to the food supply? Is it a bucket, bag or other and how does it not spill all over the place if it is just a bucket with

I am curious as it must attach to something that dispenses the food supply when the feed is operating. Is it just a hole in a bucket that clogs up when not operating and then the shaking of the feeders allows it to drop? Thank you for your assistance.

Cabela's Photocell Game Feeder Unit, # IK-420642

This unit bolts to the feeder reservoir's underside by being
bolted on. The two feeder's linked below are what it is
made to fit on: LINK http://www.cabelas.com/catalog/sear...
But it can be mounted on other bucket style feeders as well.

It attaches either to a five gallon plastic bucket or one of the bigger ABS plastic 200 LB feeder bins. You have to cut a hole in the bottom of the bin, and place the funnel over the hole you have cut. You will also have to drill 3 holes in the bin for the bolts to attach the funnel.

There is an adjustable gap between the bottom of the feed hopper and the top of the funnel.

The distance between the bottom of the funnel and the impeller that throws the food is also adjustable.

The gap between the funnel and the impeller is usually about 1"... the friction created by the corn or other food pressing down from above is enough to stop the food from all flowing out.

Soybeans, however, will not dispense from this type unit. They are round, and easily flow out of practically any size gap.

You will need a feeder hopper. Cabelas sells many of them.

All of them are glorified buckets. You attach the feeder unit to the bottom of the bucket, and the feed flows through a hole in the bottom of the bucket into the funnel.

The bucket then suspends from a bail or handle.

answer 5
There are three threaded rods at the top of the unit. You will need to drill three holes through the bottom of your feed hopper, then attach nuts (supplied) to the threaded rods. Should be no problem if you have a drill and a 1/4" bit.

Yes, you put a hole in the bucket to let the feed drop. I too have had problems with clogging and the instructions do not tell how far the spinner plate should be from the funnel. My issues with this feeder have been the setting of the photocell being off. See my review...Maddogup

There is no specified recommended distance between the funnel and the spinner plate on the Cabela's Photocell Game Feeder Unit because of different variables such as type of feed. We recommend spacing it far enough to throw amount of feed wanted but close enough to prevent feed running over the plate or that the wind doesn't blow it off the plate emptying the hopper. These usually require some adjusting depending on conditions and what is being dispersed to fit your needs.

The gap is variable. The rotor is mounted on a threaded rod. It attaches with a bushing and a setscrew.

answer 3
NO. This has been a problem for me too. To big a gap and the feed runs out when the wind or birds jar the feeder or remove feed from the plate. To little a gap and it does not dispense.

The Cabela's Photocell Game Feeder Unit, item # IK-420642, does have a connection for a solar charger, however there is no current solar charger that will plug directly in. You will need to hard wire a 6 volt solar charger to this unit by removing the connector.

I don't believe a solar charge will work with this unit. The only battery that will work is a spring-terminal lantern battery, and the battery is installed upside down. There is no clearance inside the lower cylinder for leads to run in from a solar charger, and the terminals are inaccessible.

This unit is not designed for a solar panel connection but I think you could cut a hole in the plastic and run a wire to your battery.
