I have used an 8GB and 32GB card., you really need two so you can always have one in the camera while you review photos from the other. Your settings and activity level will determine how much you need. I have pretty standard settings and have not come close to a lint of any kind on either.

I've used several inexpensive SD card brands without any problems. Just get most anything on sale. Here are some tips for security use. Cover with black electrical tape the red indicator light to the left of the motion sensor (not the one on the right, that's the exposure sensor). A flashing red light at day time might be noticed by intrudors you're trying to catch. At night they'll see the infra-red lights....nothing you can do about it. Hide it in a subtle location. If they see it and steal it, you won't have any pictures. The best would be somewhere up high that they can't get to without a ladder, but I've also hidden inside a shrub or pine tree with just enough space for it to see out. Try to angle it so pictures will catch someone walking toward the camera. If they're moving fast across the field of view, you may not capture them (and you want to see their face anyway). Be sure to set the date & time accurately if it's to be used as evidence.

No special brand of SD card is required, but some cards are "faster" than others. The higher the capacity, the faster the card you want, because high capacity slows the power-up time. For an 8GB card, I suggest Class 10 minimum.

Very POOR instructions came with camera. Confusing settings for its easy toggle switches. Some setting don't make sense! The 6 Volt system and 8 AA batteries make the savings on the price NOT worth it. Most are 12 volt. Now you must buy a 6 volt lead acid and a "6 volt" charger. Now your savings have disappeared!

What does "REM" on the display screen mean?

When I press the "power" button after the camera has been out in the field for a few weeks, the screen cycles through various things (time, date, modes, number of pics, etc), but I do not know what REM (usually followed by a number in the 3000s) means. Any ideas?

answer 1
The battery life on the Wildgame Innovations 5.0 W5E Micro Camera item number IK-460527 is unpredictable. It will vary depending on what setting the camera is in. If the camera's setting in on photos, it will use less battery life than if the camera is set on video. Also the number of pictures taken will also alter this time frame.

8 AA batteries are expensive and if you shoot video it won't take long to kill them. It is a 6 volt system and not cheap to run. Find a 6 volt lead acid battery then find a 6 volt charger. All the savings on the camera are wasted on the batteries. All your other cameras are 12 volt.

Then while i was up there in November it was taking pictures during the night while i wasn't hunting taking about 20-30 pictures a night for 7 days, and when i left the battery was still reading full. so i would say battery life is very good.
