CABELA'S Cabela's Commercial-Grade 1-3/4 hp Electric Grinder

Although Cabela's Commercial-Grade 1-3/4 hp Electric Grinder was designed with hunters in mind, it is a great investment for the do-it-yourselfer wanting to make hamburger, sausage and other meat products at home. Doing so not only can save money, but it also gives you greater control over the quality and content of the meat products that you consume. You’ll find Cabela's grinders to be reliable, durable and easy to clean when the work is done. Because we use top-notch components in the construction of our grinders, you can count on years of service with proper care of the equipment. Though this grinder is great for use at home, all of Cabela's electric grinders are UL Sanitation Certified for both household and commercial use in the United States and Canada. Heavy-duty air-cooled motors are housed in stainless steel and sit atop stainless steel bases for corrosion-free use and easy cleanup. Our motors include internal circuit breakers that are independently tested to ensure their performance exceeds expectations for the highest quality and safety standards. Extra-large 545 cu.-in. hopper volume. Forward and reverse switch. 18-1/8" x 11-3/8" x 2-3/8" tray. Includes medium (7mm) and course (10mm) grinding plates, four sausage-stuffing funnels and a meat-pushing stomper. Necks, blades and grinding plates are dishwasher safe. Compatable with our optional grinder attachments. Imported. Weight: 78 lbs.

Customer questions and answers for CABELA'S Cabela's Commercial-Grade 1-3/4 hp Electric Grinder

Question

Is there an attachment that will allow me to grind wheat as well?

I would prefer a multi use grider. I want to grind both meat and wheat (not at the same time). If I can combine those into the same grinder instead of buying two, that would be great.

No. wont work. Grinding grains needs something that chops finer and faster. (like a coffee grinder). this is great for meats, pasta, and other large and 'soft' materials. wheat and other grains would pass right thru.

most grinder attachments will not. you will struggle to find attachements for any grinder larger than a size 32. for this reason alone, the horse and three quarters model isnt a wise choice in my opinion. not to mention the fact that the horse and a half is plenty of power. in fact, many companies only make up to 1 horse. 1 3/4 is simply overkill. dont spend the extra money for 1/4 hp. get the 1 1/2 and allow yourself the flexibility of attachments form cabelas and other brands.

Question

Grinding & stuffing

Currently I grind venison with the 1.5 hp (which I love) using the coarse/larger plate into a tub. When finished, I refill the hopper with ground meat, install the largest plastic tube per instructions, and fill 1.5 lb bags with ground meat for freezing. Instead, can I install the largest plastic tube when grinding meat and fill 1.5 lb bags simultaneously?

The Cabela's Commercial-Grade Electric Grinders, Item: IK-516401, can be used to fill bags the first time through the grinder, the reason the manual suggests running it through a second time for filling bags/ casings is to achieve a finer texture.

I would not recommend it. I think it's what broke my last one because the vibrations are stronger and it's only plastic. I think the pressure from grinding the meat pushes out stronger and tends to rip the casing (if that is what you mean by tube). It will have more air pockets, too which is bad for the sausage since it tends to mold in those. If you are not talking about casing I would still stick to the fact that you probably will get too much air in there and waste product that way.

I HAVE THE 1/2 HP GRINDER AND HAVE NO PROBLEM USING THE SAUSAGE STUFFING ATTACHMENT. I HAVE USED THE GRINDER TO MAKE BOTH SUMMER SAUSAGE AND SNACK STICKS. BOTH REQUIRE A SLOW AND STEADY FEEDING OF GROUND MEAT INTO THE GRINDER-SLOWER THAN I FEED MEAT INTO GRINDER FOR GRINDING. IF YOU TRY TO OVERFEED THE GROUND MEAT INTO THE NECK, IT WILL LEAK BACK AROUND THE PLUNGER.

I am guessing over the last year they redesigned the meat stomper. I know my 3/4 hp Cabelas grinder came with the stomper without the collar / stop molded into it.
My auger caught the plunger while grinding meat and I immediately shut the grinder off and removed my meat lug. I ended up tossing some meat away due to fear of plastic ground up into meat. I contacted Cabelas about this as well as put a review in about it. In the meantime, I drilled a hole through the handle and pushed a wooden dowel through the handel as a stop. That worked.
I purchased a redesigned stomeper earlier this year. The stop collar on the redesigned stomper works fine...no issues. Just be sure to order the correct size.

why can't stuffing auger stuff 21mm casing?

I have the 13/4 meat grinder and when making snack stick mixed with cheese the plastic auger setup won't push meat out. It just rolls in housing. The meat is plenty cold. The other size stuffing tubes work well for bologna and kolbassi.

The Cabela's Commercial-Grade Electric Grinders, Item: IK-516401, have several differences only 1 being the motor size. The entire unit gets larger for each size up making the larger grinders have larger necks and larger hoppers. The general design is nearly identical but sized up according to motor size. The motor RPM is 1780 for all HP sizes and the blade RPM is 108 for all HP sizes. The amp draw for each size is as follows:
1/2 hp - 3.125 amps
3/4 hp - 4.6 amps
1 hp - 6.25 amps
1-1/2 hp - 9.375 amps
1-3/4 hp - 10.9 amps

The 1 hp model is the most popular size.

I have had the 1 hp model which is the number #22. Which done a fine job just wanted one bigger and faster. So I sold that one and bought the 1 3/4 hp #42 just because I had to know and so I wouldn't second guess myself. If had to do over I would buy the 1 1/2 hp #32 instead it almost as fast and easier and safer to use. But the #42 is a beast but like I said I would trade mine for 1 1/2 # 32 today.

However, it's good practice to turn it off every 10 minutes to allow the system to cool off before you use it again. This would prevent premature failure.

Question

Need advise with processing venison sinew and hp variations

I cut up my own deer but I am not completely thorough taking off all the sinew/ligament, etc from my meat. Can these grinders work through this stuff or does the meat need to be completely cleaned up? Also, between the different models, does an increase in hp increase my ability to grind "tougher" things like sinew or does increased hp mainly make the job faster? With all this said, what makes the most sense (good function/good value) for me to use to grind deer and elk (and beef).

The grinder should do a very good job, but it is always best to remove as much of the sinew as possible. I find a good sharp filet knife works great! You start at an edge and turn the meat over and just filet the sinew and ligament right off just like filleting a fish. This make grinding cleaner and a better finished product.
