You would just need a multi plug extension cord that is 50 foot long to use Champion 3,500-Watt Generator Weekender Package. The funnel is to put oil in the motor. The spark arrestor is to limit the sparks coming from the exhaust. The spark plug wrench is to allow you to change the spark plug. Polyester-lined PVC storage cover is to offer the generator protection when stored.

You should consider buying a twistlock-to-three-prong adapter to give you more than one three-prong outlet. Cabela's sells one that works well for me with this generator. Keep in mind that the twistlock outlet on this generator is 120V, not 240V. There are two circuit breakers, one for the twistlock and RV outlet, and one for the three-prong outlet.

Other than the generator, oil, fuel, and a twistlock-to-three-prong adapter, all you should need is extension cords. Use the thickest cords you can find, and use the shortest cords that will safely reach what you're powering.

I use this for the exact situation. A heavy duty (12 ga. 3 wire) extension cord worked fine for me for my freezer, refrigerator and 1/3 hp sump pump. The only accy I got was the wheel kit.

if your going to use the 30 amp twist lock you will need a twist lock to normal 3 prong adapter. other then that all you will need is a lot of long cord. 2 standard cords if you are going to run 2 legs 1 if your only going to power a single leg.

Since your question seems to suggest your intended use of the generator is primarily to supply power to appliances in your basement, I think it is worth noting here, a reminder NOT to operate your generator INDOORS OR OUTDOORS NEAR OPEN windows, doors or vents. Doing so is potentially fatal due to carbon monoxide poisoning. There is a short video regarding safety located on the page with the item description under the heading "Additional Information".

Since neither of the 2 men mentioned this in their answers I thought it might be a helpful reminder.

answer 1
The Champion 3,500-Watt Generator Weekender Package does not have any specific "break in oil" recommendation. The manufacturer does, however recommend changing the oil after the first 5 hours of useage. Thereafter, change the oil with each 100 hrs of operation, unless it has been operated under heavy useage conditions. In such case, changing the oil each 50 hrs is recommended. The recommentation for the oil to use depends on the ambient temperature the generator is being operated under. For continued use below 30 degrees F, use 5w-30; From 30 degrees F to 120 degrees F, use 10w-30. For use only at 70 degrees F and higher, use 30 oil. The company states no preference for regular or synthetic formulas.

10w-30 or 5w-30 depending on temperature in your area of use. Regular oil is fine, first oil change after 5 hour break in. Then most put synthetic oil in. Changing oil takes a couple of minutes.

No, but champion's otherwise identical model that does come with remote works fantastic! Worked great last winter (used with camper trailer during deer season). Used main batteries during nighttime furnace usage and it fired up every morning when we got up. Ran it for microwave, DVD player, TV, radio, furnace, battery chargers and lights no problem. Fired it up at midday break to charge main batteries and cooking dinner and at night before going to bed. It turned on and off from inside the trailer despite very cold and freezing temperature. Recommend highly.

You might have trouble running both a AC and a fridge. When these loads (compressors) kick in they draw double the rated power. i.e. A 1200watt fridge draws 2400watts when started. When combined with other items could trip the breaker, which is rated at 25amps.

this generator can deliver a total of 4000 watts or 32 amps. if your going to run them at the same time and are only supporting 1 leg you should use the twist lock or rv adapter since they have larger breakers on the genny then the 120 volt does.
if you power up the refrigerator first and wait for it to get cold and start cycling then as long as it is not starting at the exact same time as the a/c you should have no problems. also check their amps usage to make sure the total is not more then 32 amps.

You will need a 12mm socket with a short extension to reach the drain plug. I also used a standard aluminum broiler pan and a 1-quart can with plastic lid to hold and contain the oil.

Remove both the drain plug and the oil filler cap with the broiler pan sitting under the generator. Drain the oil when the machine is hot so the oil will flow freely. You might have to tilt the generator toward you a bit to get all the oil out, but this is very easy to do. I transferred the oil from the broiler pan to the can with the lid so I could properly dispose of the oil. Overall, a pretty easy job!!!

The Champion 3500 Watt Generator Weekender Package, item # IK-523893, will run 12 hours at 50% load (2000 Watts) from a 4-gallon fuel tank. It all depends upon the Amps drawn from your lights and refrigerator during operation that determines how long it will operate.

If you have the generator attached to the three prong rv plug and attached to the rv start the largest load first. I think it would be your ac unit. When the AC starts it will draw twice the watts for start up than for running there for you don't want to max out your generator because you will need the extra wattage for start up. You can find what wattage things use on the internet as some applicances don't use start up wattage

The twist lock is protected by a 20 Amp breaker, the RV outlet by a 25 Amp. RV outlet is the only one that provides the full 3500 Watt output.

The short answer is you cannot get 3500 watts from this right-hand household outlet. To get the full 3500 watts you must access the middle 30 watt RV outlet. I have a lengthy discussion on this issue in my review. My review is the lengthy one dated December 12, 2013 for the 3500 Weekender model.

Probably not. I do not own a welder, but I researched several models and discovered some small welders draw 100 AMPS. So look at your welder, if draws more than 30 AMPS, the welder will not operate.

I live at 5,300 feet and just completed an exhaustive test on this generator. The short answer is, my generator operated fine with no special modifications. However, I have some important information to pass on. At 5,300 feet, my generator only produces 3,144 watts. Any higher load will cause the generator to die. At 7,000 feet my guess is the generator will max-out at about 3,000 watts. I discuss all this in detail in my review posted on December 12, 2013.

Question

How do I protect the generator from rain and noise?

I want to buld an enclosure to protect my new Weekender generator (arriving soon) from rain and to reduce noise. Are there any special requirements I should take into account? How much space around the sides will I need and will it need a cooling fan? Whan about exhaust considerations-can I attach an extension pipe? I am currently planning to make the enclosure out of wood, basically a small shed with fiberglass pink insulation for the noise. Any suggestions/comments would be welcome. Thanks

Make sure its well ventilated and that you can keep your fuel and supplies well away from the exhaust ports.
I kept ours in a small, knock down PVC shed that I bought from Cabelas for our lawnmowers etc.. You also need to think about how you'll ground it (heavy gage wire clamped to a piece of copper pipe hammered into the ground will do the trick.
I also made a "distribution panel" using a waterproof box and electrical supplies from the local hardware store so I could plug in my 3 main feeds to the house and have some spare outlets as well for a drop light etc.in the shed.so I didn't have to refuel in the dark.

There are some good examples of generator enclosures on the Internet. The biggest issue you will have is air flow. The easiest is to install exhaust fan on one side of the enclosure that is plugged into the generator, and a vent opening on the other to pull fresh air in, and push exhaust out.

The generator will make a lot of heat when its running. An insulated shed seems unnecessary. It really should be outdoors when running, just like a lawn mower. Mine starts easily even when very cold.

Question

Is it normal for the generator to get fairly hot while running?

I have the generator running in the small insulated shed I built for it (3 3/4 feet square on the ground after insulation by about 5 1/2 feet high with a 10 inch box fan drawing air from the outside through a vent). It's been running for about three hours now and I noticed the generator is getting hot. I can still touch the frame bars and the sides of the machine, but hot nonetheless. Is this normal?

The generator is not made for indoors especially an insulated small area. I would suggest having more room and no insulation. It is better just to have a top several feet over it and nothing else because the heat will burn it up eventually. Place the exhaust toward an open area so it can escape...

That sounds like too small a space without enough air flow. Keeping it in a storage box is fine but it needs air to cool just like a lawn mower. I'd pull it outside to run it, even if it's raining.

Question

Can you get full wattage from just one of the 3 outlets?

Purchased this generator, but have come accross some comments that the outlets may be on different windings, so in order to get the full 3500 watts you need to use multiple outlets. If I wanted to use a transfer switch to connect this to my house, i'm guessing I would use the twist lock outlet, could I get the full 3500 watts from this one outlet? Or could I only get a percentage of the total rating from this one outlet?

The Champion 3500 Watt Generator Weekender Package, item # IK-523893 has 3 power outlets. These are a twist lock outlet, and RV outlet and a regular 3 prong outlet. The twist lock and the RV outlets can provide up to the full 3500 watts of power. The 3 prong outlet has a maximum load rating of 2400 watts.

Your best bet is not the twist lock outlet on the left. This outlet is actually two 15 AMP outputs than when used with a Y-adapter outlet, will allow 30AMPs of total output from both ends of the Y-adapter used simultaneously. By far, your best choice is the middle RV outlet. By purchasing the special 30 AMP plug, only this outlet will allow the full output of the generator from just one output power cord. In addition, depending on your altitude, my tests revealed a much lower total output at higher elevations. My explanation is listed as a review dated December 12, 2013 where I address this issue in detail.

In the 120 Volt model, both windings are connected in parallel, so all power is available to all outlets. However, there are breakers protecting the outlets at their ratings, so only the RV plug has the full output available without tripping a breaker.

30 Amps. Unless you live in CA or a few places on the East coast, most US gas is 10%. E15 is new, controversial and not widely available. Using two generators is inefficient and will require a lot of wiring (unless you plan on running extension cords to everything you want to run on the generators). Just use a bigger unit and one transfer switch or panel. That said, 3500W will run a refrigerator and a furnace with no problem. Not big enough for central A/C, but I've used on to run my house in a pinch when my 9500 was down. Just had to run the furnace and fridge for a while, then the water pump when those were off.
