Question

What is the model , and low temp?

I was wondering what the model # was on this so I could do more research. Also, what is the lowest temp this will measure? There are a lot of these on the market that won't read below zero, and I live in Alaska, so I need at least -50* F.

Question

Can someone explain the USB port use?

On what device is it located on? Does someone really expect me to run a 330 ft. USB cord from the outside mounted device back to my indoor office computer that has wireless capability? And if it is the display why would I run a USB cord from a device displaying the information to a computer next to it to display the same information?

The Acu-Rite 5-in-1 Wireless Weather Center with USB, item IK-634976, is a wireless weather system. Data is wirelessly transmitted from the outdoor 5-in-1 sensor to the display unit indoors (within 330 feet). The USB chord is used for the PC connect option. This allows you to connect the display unit to the computer to file data, view data from the computer, or monitor sensor data remotely online or with mobile device. The display unit does not have to be connected to the computer to receive data from outdoor sensor. It can be placed anywhere indoors as long as it’s within 330 feet of the outdoor sensor.

answer 1
The Acu-Rite 5-in-1 Wireless Weather Center with USB, item # IK-634976, is designed to work in the Northern Hemisphere, so things like forecasting may not work properly outside of this. Also, the sensor will have to be mounted opposite the instructions, in other words, normally the solar cell would face South so the sun is on it most of the time to run the fan, so you would need to mount the solar cell North or whichever way gets the most sun on the cell. And some adjustments will need to be made to the wind directional as it won’t show correctly. Here is the “cheat” for that:

You could follow these steps to make the 5-in-1 sensor wind direction proper for the southern hemisphere:
{Be careful and exercise general caution when doing this so that you do not injure yourself or others}
1. Pull off the wind vane (this will require some force to "pop" it off, but it can be done relatively easily)
2. Mark the location of the flat spot on the hole in the wind vane
3. Drill out, or otherwise round out the hole so that there is no longer a flat spot (key). Do not enlarge the hole, simply round it out.
4. Line up the hole of the wind vane piece with the metal shaft on the 5-in-1 sensor- but line up the mark you made OPPOSITE of the flat spot on the metal shaft. Press the vane on firmly and carefully.
This will effectively reverse the wind vane on the sensor so that it will read correctly on the display in the southern hemisphere- presuming you have faced your solar cell towards the North of course.

Please note this effectively remove any manufacturer’s warranty on the item.
