The ATN Aries 390 Paladin Nightvision Riflescope, item # IK-711517, will mount on any standard Weaver or Picatinny 7/8" width rail. If your remington 700 is not equipped with a Weaver or Picatinny base, one of the following will work with this scope.

Thank you for the question.

If your Remington 700 has a weaver or picatinny rail the MK390 will mount directly to that. If not, you would have to install that type of rail on your rifle.

Question

Does this scope use any IR technology. It is my understanding that scopes that use only ambient light are legal California.

I understand Cabela's wont ship this scope to California. I'm just trying to find out what's legal here.

The ATN MK390 comes with a detachable IR illuminator. The Scope is a passive night vision device and doesn't emit any light.

In order to be sure on the legality of the use of Night Vision to hunt in California, I would talk to your local game warden.

Is the Paladin N-V scope truely a Night vision scope or does it require an alternate light source?

The ATN Aries 390 Paladin Nightvision Riflescope, item number IK-711517, does require some amount of ambient light to work. In complete darkness an infrared emitter is needed in order to be functional.

answer 2
All Night Vision devices need some sort of ambient light to amplify in order to produce a usable image. The way an image intensifier tube works is based on the principal of amplifying natural or artificial ambient light. So if you have no light at all, you would need to use an IR illuminator which produces artificial ambient light. Natural ambient light would be emitted from the moon or stars.

All ATN products come with an IR illuminator built into the system, or can be detached from the system. Depending on the model.

There is a small rail on top of the ATN Aries 390 Paladin Nightvision Riflescope, Item # IK-711517, that would allow the use of a holographic sight, but it does not have a see through base to use iron sights.

The ATN Aries 390 Paladin Nightvision Riflescope could be used on a shotgun. It mounts to any Picatinny or Weaver style rail. We are not currently carrying a mount to fit that shotgun. You may need to have a gunsmith drill and tap it to accept a scope mount it it's not already drilled and tapped.

The cover has a small hole in it. This allows you to sight it in during the day. I did it yesturday with full sun. The cross hairs were very hard to see though and acording to ATN you should only use it for 10 minutes under these conditions or it will damage the scope. In short, it is not make for day time use.

Limited at best. When viewing an object with the sun in front of you too much light gives a poor image {this is with the pin hole cover engaged} Best for night use.
