Question

Why does it read only out to about 200 yards for white tail?

I have noticed several comments that say the rangefinders are good out to approximately two hundred yards for "white tail" and that you can get a"different reading" for Elk? Please explain why this is. I would like to get a quality rangefinder, but if it is only accurate out to 200 or 250 yards then I will pass on them and invest in a top quality scope that will reach out to 500 yards. Thanks

It has to do with the size of whitetail compared to an elk which is a quite bigger "target" at these distances.

Rangefinders are only as good as the guy using them. This is especially true at long distances. It's not easy to hold on to a target that far away without a dead rest or tripod.

The type of bow doesn't make any difference on the angle of the shot compared to how far the target is if you were perfectly level with the target. Hope this answers your question.

Yes, but use it when practice shooting and adjust your hold over to different yardages. Depending on what type of scope reticle you have, you may have to just keep that in mind.

answer 3
Your crossbow shooting at 383 feet per second has nothing to do with finding the distance of your target. This rangefinder will tell you the angle and the distance you should use for your shot based on your shooting angle. From a treestand, It's usually only 1 or 2 yards different than the actual distance. Personally, I don't think it's even an issue but I do like the rangefinder and the price is right.

I use binos all the time. My rangefinder is only used when I am initially on the stand. If still hunting, I have my RF out along with binos which makes it difficult. It all depends on your style of hunting.

Question

Can this be effectively used for rifle hunting?

Given that it works out to 850 yards I would say yes. The only reason I ask is that it is being marketed with the word "Bowhunter" in the title/description. I would like to use it for bow and rifle seasons here in Georgia. Please advise, thank you.

I've used it for both. I've found it works very well out at 500 yards. You just have to have the target or an object near the target, such as a tree trunk, centered in the little circle in the reticil.

The only reason it says bowhunter on it is because it has the ARC ranging system. But with rifle hunting mine hardly ever ranges past 200 yards so i use my Nikon 550 Prostaff for rifle hunting.

A troubleshooting checklist has been included below for your convenience. If the unit is not usable after trying these steps please reference the link to the Cabela's return policy included below.

If target range cannot be obtained:
• Make sure LCD is illuminated.
• Make sure that the power button is being depressed.
• Make sure that nothing, such as your hand or finger, is blocking the objective lenses (lenses closest
to the target) that emit and receive the laser pulses.
• Make sure unit is held steady while depressing power button.
