Question

Ruger 10/22

Just ordered the Ruger 10/22 Take Down Rifle. Most reviews say it's hard to fine a scope to keep mounted when packing it in the bag it comes with. At 8.1 inches this looks like it should do the trick. Does anybody know what size rings I would need to mount on the Ruger 10/22?

NO! The 3x32 fixed power Nikon Carbine scope will not directly mount/work on a Mini 14 (Utilizing the factory-provided Ruger scope mounts). The Carbine scope tube barrel in between the fore and aft flairs is approx. 1/2" too short for the Ruger mounts. You must order the variable 223 Nikon as it's tube barrel in between flairs is approx 1" longer than the Carbine variant. Expert is incorrect in this case.

Norseman78, You will be just fine putting the Nikon P-223 3-9 BDC 600 on your bolt action rifle. I have done this using the M-Series Scopes and have had great success shooting out to 600 yards. Make sure you check out Nikon's Spot On Ballistic Program to further dial in your Rifle,Scope and ammo combination. I think you will be very pleased with your results.

It would work as in a scope work, the reticules specific to .223 ballistics will be different due to bullet weight and powder charge. You may get lucky and the co efficients of the two are similar enough.

If you mean by hard sights the front post or BUIS system then you will want a QD mount. If you want to use this scope as I use it on my LMT, as my primary optic, Nikon's 2 piece P-Series ( Item: IK-713826) mounts work great. You can also use the 1 piece M-223 AR Mounts ( Item: IK-713827)as well. I also use an offset mount so that I can use BUIS at 45 deg. off my rail. I hope this answers your question?

The Rapid Action Turret is set up for a velocity of 3240fps. How accurate the turret would be depends on the actual velocity of your rifle. I would have to assume that your 16" barrel will not produce a muzzle velocity of 3240.
That being said, the BDC reticle can be optimized using the Spot On software that can by accessed on the Nikon website.

Varies... there is a program Nikon has that let's you calculate the various range reticles and at which power. They have a smartphone app but it costs a few $. I have setup and adjusted my scope for use to 700m and had to zero my loads on the first diamond at 25m to get it tobe set at 697m on the bottom point of the lowest diamond. As you zoom in the ranges between points will narrow greatly. At 3x my lowest it holding near 1000m... so zero according to a particular load, log it on a pad or phone for magnification desired, and repeat forloads you plan to shoot. As far as accuracy of markings even a 5kt wind with lighter or non BTHP bullets will throw you short a good ways at 500m but for a very nonscientific test using graphing paper it was dead close at 200m I would only use it for larger still targets or emergency situations/quick fire only... I still adjust for precise untimed shots but if SHTF I know I can handle a square foot +/- target from PBR to ~700m quickly enough to get the job done.

Terry, There are a number of dovetail scope rings you can buy for this rifle or add a tactical base for picatinny style mount. You can find a number of dovetail rings under Mounts and bases on the cabela's web site.I would suggest medium rings so that if you add flip up scope covers you will have clearance. Make sure you check out Nikon's Spot On Ballistic Program to optimize your BDC scope's accuracy too.
