Question

Ruger 10/22

Just ordered the Ruger 10/22 Take Down Rifle. Most reviews say it's hard to fine a scope to keep mounted when packing it in the bag it comes with. At 8.1 inches this looks like it should do the trick. Does anybody know what size rings I would need to mount on the Ruger 10/22?

short distance fine but a .308 can reach out much further. If you shoot further than 300 yards consistently, I would consider something more powerful. My AR 15 has a 3x9, my AR 10 4.5x14.

answer 2
NO! The 3x32 fixed power Nikon Carbine scope will not directly mount/work on a Mini 14 (Utilizing the factory-provided Ruger scope mounts). The Carbine scope tube barrel in between the fore and aft flairs is approx. 1/2" too short for the Ruger mounts. You must order the variable 223 Nikon as it's tube barrel in between flairs is approx 1" longer than the Carbine variant. Expert is incorrect in this case.

The two-piece, reversible integrated base and ring are for use with the Nikon P-223 Riflescope, item # IK-IK-713807. If the carry handle is not removable, it will be necessary to use something like the TAPCO AR-15 Scope Mount, Item # IK-228643.

Terry, There are a number of dovetail scope rings you can buy for this rifle or add a tactical base for picatinny style mount. You can find a number of dovetail rings under Mounts and bases on the cabela's web site.I would suggest medium rings so that if you add flip up scope covers you will have clearance. Make sure you check out Nikon's Spot On Ballistic Program to optimize your BDC scope's accuracy too.

Nikon's M-223 Scope's are built on the MONARCH Platform and P-223 the PROSTAFF platform. The M-223 offers higher quality of glass coating's, a 1 piece tube and parallax adjustment for long range shooting. I personally own a P-223 3-9 BDC 600 Scope and it has done all I have asked it to do in the 2 months I have had it. I also have the M-223 3-12 BDC 600 Scope and have shot it out to 600 yards with great success using Nikon Spot On Ballistic Program to dial in my scope and ammo. Both scopes are built to be used and backed by Nikon's outstanding warranty.

To answer your question,Yes, a red dot scope can be mounted on top of your P-223 3-9. This will take a special mount not that I would suggest talking to a gunsmith to get the right 1 inch mount and rings that will allow you to mount the red dot on top of the P-223 3-9. Another thought might be a co-witness side mount red dot which would have you canting the rifle 45 deg. to make an accurate shot. Again, talking to a gunsmith who can help make sure you get exactly what you want the first time is what I would suggest.

It will work with 1 inch rings but I doubt you will find a 1 piece mount that will work with this compact scope. Good QD Mounts are great to have if you plan to swap out your scope frequently otherwise they are just an added expense. QD Mounts that will provide repeatable accuracy are very expensive.
Nikon's P-Series AR Mounts work very well with the P-223 3X Carbine scope. They are easy to mount and will provide a rock solid mount for your rifle.

If you mean by hard sights the front post or BUIS system then you will want a QD mount. If you want to use this scope as I use it on my LMT, as my primary optic, Nikon's 2 piece P-Series ( Item: IK-713826) mounts work great. You can also use the 1 piece M-223 AR Mounts ( Item: IK-713827)as well. I also use an offset mount so that I can use BUIS at 45 deg. off my rail. I hope this answers your question?
