Ruger 10/22

Just ordered the Ruger 10/22 Take Down Rifle. Most reviews say it's hard to fine a scope to keep mounted when packing it in the bag it comes with. At 8.1 inches this looks like it should do the trick. Does anybody know what size rings I would need to mount on the Ruger 10/22?

Varies... there is a program Nikon has that let's you calculate the various range reticles and at which power. They have a smartphone app but it costs a few $. I have setup and adjusted my scope for use to 700m and had to zero my loads on the first diamond at 25m to get it tobe set at 697m on the bottom point of the lowest diamond. As you zoom in the ranges between points will narrow greatly. At 3x my lowest it holding near 1000m... so zero according to a particular load, log it on a pad or phone for magnification desired, and repeat forloads you plan to shoot. As far as accuracy of markings even a 5kt wind with lighter or non BTHP bullets will throw you short a good ways at 500m but for a very nonscientific test using graphing paper it was dead close at 200m I would only use it for larger still targets or emergency situations/quick fire only... I still adjust for precise untimed shots but if SHTF I know I can handle a square foot +/- target from PBR to ~700m quickly enough to get the job done.

NO! The 3x32 fixed power Nikon Carbine scope will not directly mount/work on a Mini 14 (Utilizing the factory-provided Ruger scope mounts). The Carbine scope tube barrel in between the fore and aft flairs is approx. 1/2" too short for the Ruger mounts. You must order the variable 223 Nikon as it's tube barrel in between flairs is approx 1" longer than the Carbine variant. Expert is incorrect in this case.

short distance fine but a .308 can reach out much further. If you shoot further than 300 yards consistently, I would consider something more powerful. My AR 15 has a 3x9, my AR 10 4.5x14.
