Customer questions and answers for CABELA'S Cabela's Pinnacle™ Boa® Extreme 800-Gram Boots

Question

I am a waterfowler. How good are these at keeping feet warm in inactive hunts?

Inactive means sitting and not walking around or infrequent activity: like in a pit, blind or layout blind. I've seen where many boots are rated for cold weather but folks are unhappy sitting in deer stands. I'm thinking the manufacturers/retailers are "fudging" a bit and using the body heat from more active hunts that require packing in or stalking to meet temp range ratings. Once my feet go cold, I am done and I don't want to spend this kind of money and get cold feet

Also I'm curious about the new Boa "twist" system and how the dial on the back of the boot would be comfortable in a layout situation where calfs are on the ground??

The Cabela's Pinnacle™ Boa® Extreme 800-Gram Boots, Item #IK-818411, were originally designed for stop and stalk type of hunting.

Most of our products do not have temperature ratings assigned due to too many external variables involved to accurately rate most garments. There are many factors involved, such as an individual's metabolic rate, overall tolerance to cold, calorie intake and weather conditions, among others.

My Pinnacle 800 gram boots kept me warm in cold temps while I was still hunting.
The "Boa" system is guaranteed for life. They work quite well. I can see no reason why the boot would be uncomfortable with your calves on the ground. The knob that operates the "Boa" system is the size of a Kennedy half dollar coin.

These boots are the best I have ever owned when it comes to keeping my feet dry. Creek wading, swamp wading on so on, completely submerged in water and no leaks. When sitting in my deer blind at say 18 to 20 degrees I would say my feet get a little cool after about 4 to 5 hours. all I have to do is stand or take a walk if needed and they warm right back up. The tie mechanism is the best I have ever owned. The boots go on in second and off in seconds. When taking off just pop the knob out and pull on the strings by hand to loosen. Great product.

We do not recommend the use of mink oil with our Cabela's Pinnacle™ Boa® Extreme 800-Gram Boots, item number IK-818411. Using mink oil or similar products can cause the Gore-Tex lining to fail. We would recommend that a pump or brush type Silicone treatment be used.

Question

Rugged durability and comfort

I hunt Elk in Central Idaho, very rugged terrain. I was wondering how these would do on the shale and steep mountainous terrain. I am looking for a durable, comfortable, rugged boot that will take weather conditions from 40* and rain to -5* and snowing.

I have hunted with a pair of LaCross packs for a couple years now and am looking to up grade.

Question

I am impressed so far, the only worry i have how tight the boots will be on my ankle.

I've read a few reviews about them being too tight. But also read several of reviews that said there great. Any opinions? I'm a pretty large hunter (300 lbs). Also how are they for spending all day walking in snow/atv riding?

Buy a pair an extra size bigger. I wear a 10.5, width EE. The size 11 would not allow me to get my feet into the boots. However, size 11.5 allowed my feet to enter.
I have a pair of 15" Pinnacle snake boots, 400 grams. I wear them all day and they feel good at the end of the day.

The Cabela's 6 pocket pants will not fit over the boot. I wore my pants in the boot, my cold weather bibs fit well on over the boot. I do not think most hunting pants, unless very loose, will fit over the boot.

The boot lacing system is located behind the calf potion of the boot. If pants are worn over the boot it would be difficult to use.

The Cabela's Pinnacle Boa® Extreme 800-Gram Boots, item # IK-818411, are made to be waterproof. The only place were water can come in would be over the top. Since they are 16" boots, you should be able to wade through 10" of water without getting your feet wet, so long as no water splashes and comes in the top of the boots.
